Exchange Server: EX 2010 – Setup Database Availability Group (DAG)

This tutorial is written to setup DAG for Exchange 2010 with step by step.

STEP 1: Pre-Stage the Cluster Name Object (CNO) for DAG

1.1. Create Computer Object for DAG Cluster Name and Disable Computer Account

1.2. Enable ADUC “Advanced Features”

1.3. Right click on Computer Object, select Properties.

Navigate to Security tab and added Exchange Trusted Subsytem with Full Control

STEP 2: Create Database Availability Group

2.1. Open Exchange Management Console (EMC),

navigate to Organization Configuration -> Mailbox

2.2. Select Database Availability Group tab and on Action pane

select ” New Database Availability Group…”

2.3. Set New DAG Wizard value:

– DAG Name:  the same as DAG CNO Computer Name created on Step 1.1

– Witness Server : Set Witness Server hostname

Note: Witness server cannot be Exchange Mailbox Server

– Witness Directory: Each DAG needs to be set on separate folder

The new DAG checked from ADSIEdit (ADSIEdit.msc) as shown below:

STEP 3 : Create DAG Membership

3.1. Right Click on New DAG created at Step 2, and DAG Membership Wizard appears.

3.2. Click ‘Add’ Button to select multiple Exchange Mailbox Server to add to DAG

3.3. Click ‘Manage’ Button to start DAG Membership creation.

STEP 4 : Configure DAG Network

4.1. Rename New DAG Network to identify DAG Network purpose
